Jeff Scoll， eBay的第一位總裁，也是參與者製片公司的創立者。2004年，Jeff Scoll成立參與者製片公司，他相信「故事的力量」，希望說出具有社會教育意義的故事，創造改變世界的力量。這股力量不只來自於拍攝、出版電影的人，更 來自於那些被電影撼動的觀眾起身參與的力量。
” Movies have the power to inspire. You have the power to act.” 參與者製片公司相信透過媒體傳播的力量，將造成社會的巨大變動。藉由拍攝電影或紀錄片的方法，傳播嚴肅的社會議題，諸如「種族歧視」、「環境保護」、「貧 富差距」、「性騷擾」、「政治迫害」、「民主自由」…等等。至今，參與者製片公司已經製作多部電影，包括以工作環境中的男女平權為主題的《北國性騷擾》、 以爭取人身及言論自由為主題的《晚安，祝你好運》、以探討石油問題以及美國霸權問題的《諜對諜》…等，每部電影或紀錄片都有一個主題，也都引起外界的高度 討論。
像 《不願面對的真相》一片，就是希望社會大眾能注意全球暖化的現象，並 藉由減少二氧化碳的排放減緩對地球臭氧層的傷害。本片記錄美國前副總統高爾在全球的巡迴演說，透過鏗鏘有力的科學數據與動人的演說技巧，讓聽者無一不重視 全球暖化的議題，喚起世人對地球資源的永續利用的重視，並用實際的行動參與減緩全球暖化。這些社會議題需要普羅大眾的重視、關懷，甚至是「參與」。 鄉村銀行第二項獨特作法，是幫助窮人建立商業的概念。窮人用貸款購買材料，製作東西並販賣。並且用團體的力量，建立市集、擴大交易規模。這樣賺來的錢，再 投資買更多材料來生財，把良性循環越滾越大。
參與者製片公司的營運模式
在 我們生存的這個地球，存在著許多急須被揭露並解決的問題。像是過度排放二氧化碳造成的全球暖化問題、非洲蘇丹達佛 (Darfur)地區的種族滅絕慘劇…等等。參與者製片公司專注拍攝此類具社會教育意義的電影、記錄片，揭露不為人知的問題，希望藉此引起社會大眾的注 意，並讓每個被感動的人都能盡一己之力協助改善社會問題。以社會議題為拍攝主題的參與者製片公司，不惜成本找來大卡司、大製作，拍攝出一部部叫好又賣座的 電影，票房滿檔就是參與者製片公司運作成功的象徵。
「不可能商業起來的 片」，是外 界對於這些電影主題的想法，但事實卻是一部「好的電影」是能讓嚴肅的社會主題生動化，並能被觀眾所喜愛。什麼是「好的電影」呢?參與者製片公司藉由「具故 事性的電影情節、細膩寫實的呈現手法、演技純熟的演員詮釋角色、話題的宣傳與製造」，讓「具有社會教育意義的電影」、「不可能商業起來的片」在全球引起一 波波的注目、談論，甚至得到諸多影展與電影獎的支持與肯定。即使是希望「寓教於樂」，參與者製片公司的在拍攝電影時的首要理念仍是「娛樂-」，再來才是使 觀眾成為下一個「參與者」。網站上還設有「社群討論區」，讓觀眾對於不同主題的電影抒發想法，並讓社會議題能持續發酵、產生影響。
參與者製片公司拍攝具社會教育意義的電影，將嚴肅的社會議題轉化為生動的電影情節震撼觀眾，並激發觀眾參與社會問題。具故事性又精緻的拍片手法，是每部電影叫好又賣座的關鍵因素，這讓參與者製片公司在投入社會公益的同時也能營利。

It's my favorite animation!!In the beginning, we can understand why Carl stats his adventure that is my favorite part. I find the descripition about the plot from Wikipedia：
In 1939, Carl Fredricksen is a shy 8-year-old boy who meets an outgoing and rather eccentric girl named Ellie and discovers they share the same interest in adventures as their hero, famed explorer Charles Muntz. Ellie expresses her desire to move her clubhouse to Paradise Falls in South America, a promise she makes Carl swear to keep. Years pass, and Carl and Ellie marry and grow old together in the old house where they first met while making a living as a toy balloon vendor and a zookeeper respectively. Unable to have children, they also try to save up for the trip to Paradise Falls but other financial obligations arise. Just as they finally seem to be able to take their trip, Ellie dies of old age, leaving Carl living by himself, becoming sour and missing his wife terribly. As the years pass, the city grows around Carl's house with construction as he refuses to move. After a tussle with a construction worker over his broken mailbox, the court orders Carl to move into Shady Oaks Retirement Home. Carl comes up with a scheme to keep his promise to Ellie, and uses his old professional supplies to create a makeshift airship using 10,000 helium balloons which lift his house off its foundations. Russell, a Wilderness Explorer trying to earn his final merit badge for "Assisting the Elderly", has stowed away on the porch after being sent on a snipe hunt by Carl the day before.
